Clarks Summit, PA 18411
The Humane Society of Lackawanna County was established in 1938 to provide
shelter for homeless, unwanted, and abused animals. The Humane Society strives
to prevent cruelty to animals and promote responsible pet ownership.
The services and programs
which the Humane Society provides to the community include:
Shelter for abandoned, unwanted
animals
The Humane Society receives about 7,000 animals each year
Lost and Found
Confused and lost pets are only a telephone call away from
home. Thanks to our lost-and-found Listings.
Educational Programs
Our educational programs will teach thousands of children
this year to be kind to all animals and to respect the living environment…..
to build a more caring tomorrow.
Pet Adoptions
Many animals receive a "second chance" because of
our adoption program. Potential adopters must comply to our adoption policies.
You will be asked to fill out an application and sign an adoption contract.
The cost will include Spay/Neutering. License, and a small adoption donation.
State law requires all adopted animals be spayed/neutered.
Pet Therapy
Visits by our animals and volunteers to hospitals and nursing homes bring
joy, unconditional love, and vitality to everyone. Pets are good for people!
Greener Pastures Pet Cemetery
Rabies Clinics
Cruelty Investigations
Humane Society Police Officers investigate hundreds of abuse and neglect cases
each year. Humane Society Police Officers are called upon to help eliminate
the suffering of the helpless animals who cannot speak for themselves.
Volunteers
Volunteer assistance is a vital component of the Humane Society's work. There
are many ways in which you can help and make a valuable contribution to animal
welfare in our area. Volunteers can help with fund raising, dog banks, pet
visitation, animal care, and more. To become a volunteer or for more information
on how you can help, contact us at (570)586-3700 or e-mail us at hslc@icontech.com.
Help Us Continue Our Work
Each year the Humane Society cares for over 6000 animals, investigates nearly
700 reported cases of animal abuse, provides humane education to area schools,
and helps promote spaying and neutering through a low cost program. All of
this is done with donation dollars. You can help us continue our work by donating
to the Humane Society.
Many have helped to continue the care and placement of homeless and abused animals by a bequest in a personal will, or by designating the Humane Society as a beneficiary in part or in whole on a life insurance policy. Some patrons have also supported our mission by registering personal investments as "TOD" "Transfer on Death" so that the fruits of these investments continue to be used in a life enhancing way. To insure that the Humane Society may continue our work on behalf of our furry and feathered friends, please use our full name ; "The Humane Society of Lackawanna County" when making the above mentioned bequests. If you have any questions about these options for giving, please contact a certified financial planner, life insurance representative or attorney.
